Imagine yourself mindfully soaking in the forest's aromas of damp wood. Attune yourself to the sounds of crunching leaves and joyful birds. Notice the feeling of plush moss and solid granite boulders under your feet. Admire the gurgling of a stream while balancing on a rock above it, and you will feel ... blissed by nature.

With the average American spending 11 hours a day on a screen and more than 90 percent of their lives indoors, no wonder that anxiety and depression rates are up. Let this be the time to step outside and feel the difference a mindful outdoor experience can make.

As a Kripalu-certified Mindful Outdoor Leader and experienced eRYT500 yoga teacher,  I offer YOGAhikes and ZENwalks - powerful, nature-based experiences with elements of forest bathing, Ayurveda, meditation, and practical outdoor skills to help you reset your nervous system.

What is a YOGAhike?

YOGAhikes are the combination of a vigorous hike and off-the-mat yoga. We leave the predictability of the studio behind to experience vibrant well-being for our body, mind, and nervous system. Our brain doesn't just enjoy nature, it responds to it.

Hiking increases blood flow to the hippocampus, the area that supports memory, navigation, and emotional regulation. The rhythmic movement in natural spaces also lowers cortisol, the body's main stress hormone.

During yoga intervals, we connect our breath in reciprocity to the breath offered from surrounding trees and find a deeper connection to ourselves and the magical world we live in.

What is a ZENwalk?

ZENwalks invite us to decelerate our busy life even more. Reawaken all your senses to connect to the more-than-human world and your true, joyful inner nature. Imagine it as a sauntering, nature-based meditation for anxious people who have a hard time meditating.

Focusing our senses on nature quiets the brain's default mode network. Nature helps us to step out of the loops of overthinking and rumination. We enter the present moment with a soft awareness. No other place to be, nothing to do other than smell the bark of a Ponderosa pine, touch soft moss, or listen to the symphony of nature sounds.

We finish with an outdoor tea ceremony and a blessing and return to our busy lives a little more grounded, centered, and calm.

I happily offer private group hikes and solos, birthday outings, and business events.

Group size limited to 15 participants.
No prior yoga experience required, but a desire to keep a steady pace up and down hills on uneven terrain.

"Knowing that you love the earth changes you, activates you to defend and protect and celebrate. But when you feel that the earth loves you in return, that feeling transforms the relationship from a one-way street into a sacred bond.  ”
